How We Began

Holy Trinity Reformed Church began as a small Bible study group that gradually grew to become a mission of Christ Church in Cary, NC.  Our first service was held on July 6, 2008.  We became an established congregation in 2010, joining the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC).

Our Leaders

Brian Phillips - Pastor

Pastor Brian and his wife Shannon have been married for almost 20 years, and have two sons, two daughters, and a dog named Ajax the Great. Brian is an enthusiastic (albeit not-too-speedy) runner, a devoted coffee drinker, plays guitar at a mediocre level, unashamedly enjoys reading mysteries and "children's" literature, and used to have hair.

He has a B.A. in Pastoral Theology, a M.A. in Theological Studies from Liberty University (with additional work at Reformed Theological Seminary), a M.A. in Christian & Classical Studies at Knox Theological Seminary and an Ed.D. in Classical Education from Whitefield Seminary.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Brian serves as an EMT and a Healthcare Tech at a local hospital, and is a nursing student. He is the former Director of Training & Consulting at the CiRCE Institute, and taught Rhetoric at Belmont Abbey College. He is the author/editor of several books, including Sunday Mornings: An Introduction to Biblical Worship, Classical Education: The Movement Sweeping America (3rd edition) by Gene Edward Veith and Andrew Kern, The Space Between: A Guide to the IliadThe Journey Home: A Guide to the Odyssey, Tales of Wonderand the Canon Classics guides to the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius and Dante’s Inferno.

Marshall Joiner - Elder

Father of nine children and grandfather of twelve, Marshall already has his hands full of good things!  He was an airline pilot (so he's frequently late), and always finds time to provide wise counsel, loud singing, and constant laughter to his family and our congregation.

Marshall guides the congregation in singing, teaches us new music, and displays amazingly gracious hospitality.  He and his wife, Judy, live in Concord.

Wade Choate - Elder

Wade is married to Jody whom he met and married in Shreveport, Louisiana in the fall of 1994. A few short years later they moved to Texarkana, Texas where they adopted their son, Caleb.

Being saved in his early 20’s, Wade continued to seek more understanding of the faith as he sat under the teaching of Randy Booth, Ben House, and Bill Izard in Texarkana.  In the summer of 2011, a job transfer brought the Choate family to Charlotte, NC and thus, to Holy Trinity. Since then, Wade has served the church in various ways and was ordained as the church’s first deacon in September of 2014.

Wade has a contagious smile, a shameless devotion to LSU football, and makes ridiculously good coffee (which we get to enjoy every Sunday!).

Our Beliefs

We believe and confess the creeds of the Church (The Apostles’ Creed, The Nicene Creed, and the Definition of Chalcedon) as our foundational statements of faith, but are more specifically defined by the Westminster Confession of Faith and the whole "family" of Reformed confessions and catechisms - the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, the Canons of Dordt, and the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion.
